Dr Dimitris Giraleas is a Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics at the University of Surrey’s Surrey Business School, where he serves as Programme Director for the BSc in Business Management and Business Analytics. His expertise spans Efficiency and Productivity Analysis, Regulatory Economics, Applied Statistics/Econometrics, and Soft Systems Methodology. Prior to Surrey, he was a Lecturer in Applied Statistics and Programme Director of the BSc in Business Analytics at Aston Business School (2013–2022). He holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc, and is a Fellow of AdvanceHE.
His teaching focuses on quantitative methods for business students, including modules on Performance Assessment (DEA/SFA), Advanced Statistics, Business Analytics, and Soft OR. He has been recognized with multiple teaching awards, including two Aston’s Astonishing Academic awards (2016) and a 2018 nomination.
Research interests include multi-dimensional performance assessments, regulatory economics in utilities, and econometric modelling. His recent projects involve advising regulatory bodies such as the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on water and energy sector efficiency assessments, including frontier shift analysis and productivity indices.
Dr Giraleas has over 20 years of consulting experience in utility regulation, with projects spanning water, energy, transport, and public policy. Notable engagements include work with Yorkshire Water, Scottish Southern Energy, and the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets. His academic consultancy bridges academic theory with practical regulatory challenges.
