Xun Liu is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture + Urbanism at the University of Southern California (USC), teaching courses in Landscape Media. She is concurrently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Virginia, researching AI applications in generative landscape design and analysis. Her academic background includes a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design (awarded Jacob Weidenmann Prize and Irving Innovation Fellowship) and a Bachelor of Architecture (with distinction) from Tongji University.
She has professional experience at the New York City Department of City Planning, Stoss Landscape Urbanism, and Harvard GSD's Office for Urbanization. Her practice, xlstudio, explores innovative design across scales, from digital fabrication to urban design. Current courses taught include 'Landscape Architecture Foundations Workshop' and 'Media for Landscape Architecture: Dynamic Systems,' focusing on ecological context analysis, digital tools, and dynamic landscape systems.
Her research emphasizes advanced design methodologies addressing environmental performance and risk management in landscapes. Notable honors include the Jacob Weidenmann Prize and Irving Innovation Fellowship. Ongoing work bridges physical computing, AI, and ecological design.
