Chris Reed is a Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture and Co-Director of the Master of Landscape Architecture in Urban Design Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD). He is also the Founding Director of Stoss Landscape Urbanism, a practice recognized globally for transformative urban and landscape projects. His research focuses on Design & Social Equity, Ecology, Infrastructure, Parametric Design, Risk & Resilience, and Urbanism, addressing climate adaptation, public space revitalization, and post-industrial site transformations.
Reed holds a Master in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and an AB in Urban Studies from Harvard College. His work spans cities like Boston, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Abu Dhabi, emphasizing climate resilience, vibrant public spaces, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
His awards include the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award (2012), Topos International Landscape Award, and a residency at the American Academy in Rome (2017). He co-edited Projective Ecologies and authored the upcoming WORK-LIFE, exploring urban landscapes’ evolving roles. Reed is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and a member of Van Alen Institute’s Climate Council, addressing climate-related challenges.
Reed’s teaching includes courses like CLIMATE CASE: Subtropical Urbanism (Spring 2025), integrating climate resilience into urban design pedagogy. He leads projects such as Freakish Grounds and Food Park, exploring adaptive urban landscapes, and has curated exhibitions like Multiple Miamis (2019).
