Xudong Zhang is Professor of Comparative Literature and East Asian Studies at NYU and founding director of the International Center for Critical Theory. He holds a Ph.D. from Duke University and a B.A. from Peking University.
His research explores critical theory, Chinese modernity, and political philosophy. Recent works analyze Lu Xun's literature and cinematic allegories. He is a 2023-24 New Institute Fellow in Hamburg and advises academic committees globally.
His publications emphasize transcultural comparisons and methodological innovations in area studies, often examining representation and identity formation.
