Eileen J. Cheng is a Professor of Chinese and Coordinator of the Chinese Section at Pomona College since 2003. She teaches courses in Chinese language, modern Chinese literature, and gender studies.
Research Interests: Her scholarship focuses on Lu Xun studies, gender and nationalism in modern China, translation theory, and world literature traditions. She explores how Lu Xun's artistic vision intersects with political narratives and cultural trauma.
Publications: Recent works include analyses of Lu Xun's philosophical writings, annotated bibliographies, and translations of his essays. Her research reveals connections between Chinese modernism and Western critical theory, particularly Adorno's reflections on mechanical reproduction.
