Paul B. Foster is an Associate Professor of Chinese and Director of the Chinese Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, within the School of Modern Languages. His research focuses on Modern Chinese Literature, particularly Lu Xun and the cultural discourse surrounding the Ah Q character. He has authored books analyzing Jin Yong's martial arts fiction and the evolution of Chinese sci-fi narratives. Foster emphasizes teaching through contemporary cultural mediums like sci-fi, martial arts film, and music. He pioneered study-abroad programs in China, including the Georgia Tech LBAT program in Shanghai/Qingdao and the University System of Georgia Summer Study in China. His academic awards include the E. Roe Stamps Excellence in Teaching Award (2002/3). Foster's work bridges literary analysis with cultural critique, addressing themes like national identity, posthumanism, and dystopian narratives. His research also explores geopolitical dimensions of cultural products such as kungfu cinema and soft power strategies in modern China.
