Xornam Apedoe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Learning and Instruction at the University of San Francisco (USF), serving as full-time faculty. She holds a PhD in Instructional Technology from the University of Georgia and a BSc (Honors) in Psychology from the University of Alberta. Her postdoctoral research was conducted at the Learning Research & Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh.
Her research focuses on broadening participation in STEM+C (Computer Science), STEM reasoning through design-based and inquiry-based approaches, and technology-enhanced learning environments. Key themes include addressing inequities in STEM+C participation, fostering STEM+C identities, and improving teaching methodologies in K-16 settings. She also investigates conceptions of teaching and learning, particularly in urban and community contexts.
Dr. Apedoe has held prior academic roles including Associate Professor at St. George’s University and the American University of Antigua, where she specialized in medical education and curriculum development. She coordinates the Educational Technology MA program at USF and has been recognized with the University of San Francisco Innovation in Teaching with Technology Award.
Her work integrates community-engaged learning, such as addressing tech inequities through coursework, and explores identity development among STEM students. She has designed curricula like the Heating/Cooling Unit to enhance conceptual understanding in science and engineering contexts.
Her publications span over two decades, emphasizing pedagogical innovation, design-based learning, and equity-focused education. She has collaborated on projects analyzing classroom materials, peer feedback systems, and the impact of early intervention programs on student retention in computer science.
