Xinran Zhang is a Research Professor in the Department of Physics at Georgetown University, where he also serves as the Assistant Director of the Institute for Soft Matter Synthesis and Metrology (I(SM)2). In this role, he oversees the technical and scientific operations of the institute's instrumentation facilities. Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. (2006) and B.S. (2000) in Chemistry from Peking University.
His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of organic semiconducting materials for electronic applications. Key areas include:
- Organic photovoltaics (OPV) and field-effect transistors (OFET)
- Structure-property relationships in thin films
- Advanced characterization techniques for soft matter
- Nanoparticle assembly and solution processing of functional materials
Dr. Zhang's publications demonstrate consistent focus on organic semiconductor systems, with recent work emphasizing charge transport mechanisms, molecular packing effects, and nanoscale morphological control in thin-film devices. His collaborative research appears in high-impact journals including Nature Communications and Journal of the American Chemical Society.
He leads technical operations at the I(SM)2 institute, supporting research in soft matter metrology and synthesis through advanced instrumentation management.
