Prof. Xinliang Feng holds dual roles as a Professor at Technische Universität Dresden and Director of the Department of Synthetic Materials and Functional Devices (SMFD) at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle. His research focuses on precision chemistry and synthesis of 2D materials, carbon nanostructures, and graphene-based systems to address global challenges in energy, environment, and technology. He leads the SMFD department and is part of the Cluster of Excellence Centre for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed).
His work emphasizes the development of functional materials for clean energy, environmental protection, and next-generation information technologies. With over 700 publications and an H-index of 164, he is a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher. In 2024, he was elected a full member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, recognizing his contributions to chemistry and materials science.
Recent work includes groundbreaking studies on 2D coordination polymers with record charge mobility and collaborative initiatives like the Center for Chiral Electronics. He actively contributes to scientific policy advising through his Leopoldina membership and fosters interdisciplinary research across institutions.
