Xingxing Zang is a Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, holding concurrent appointments in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, Department of Oncology (Medical Oncology), Department of Medicine (Oncology & Hematology), and Department of Urology. He holds the Louis Goldstein Swan Chair in Women's Cancer Research and directs the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Institute for Immunotherapy for Cancer and Inflammatory Disorders. His research focuses on discovering novel T cell immune checkpoints, cancer immunotherapy strategies, and translating these findings into clinical applications.
Research Interests: Dr. Zang's work centers on identifying and characterizing new B7/CD28 family immune checkpoints such as HHLA2, TMIGD2, and B7x. His lab has pioneered studies on the HHLA2-KIR3DL3 immunosuppressive pathway and the HHLA2-TMIGD2 immunostimulatory pathway, with applications in cancer, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, and vaccine development. Current projects include translational immunotherapies targeting checkpoint pathways in solid and hematologic malignancies.
Clinical Impact: Two novel immune checkpoint inhibitors from his lab are in active clinical trials: one in Phase II/II trials for 8 solid cancers and 3 hematologic cancers, and another in Phase I trials across multiple centers for 12 metastatic solid cancers. These therapies aim to address acquired resistance and enhance T/NK cell activity.
Training & Collaboration: Since 2008, he has mentored 65 trainees, fostering careers in academia, industry, and government. His research has formed the scientific foundation for multiple biopharmaceutical companies, guiding drug development and intellectual property creation.
