Xin Qiao serves as an Assistant Professor of Measurement and Research at the University of South Florida's College of Education. Her academic focus centers on advancing educational measurement and psychometrics through innovative applications of statistical modeling and data science techniques.
Her research interests span several interconnected domains within educational assessment:
- Educational Measurement Theory: Development and application of advanced psychometric models including Item Response Theory (IRT) and Cognitive Diagnostic Models (CDM)
- Statistical Modeling: Implementation of sophisticated statistical techniques including Bayesian methods, latent variable models, and count data analysis
- Reading Assessment: Specialized focus on oral reading fluency measurement using model-based approaches and automated scoring systems
- Process Data Analysis: Utilization of response times and action sequences to enhance diagnostic assessment capabilities
- Machine Learning Applications: Integration of deep learning and natural language processing techniques in educational measurement
Her scholarly contributions demonstrate a remarkable trajectory in addressing contemporary challenges in educational assessment. The publication record reveals consistent focus on three major themes: (1) advancing methodological frameworks for complex educational data, particularly count and time data; (2) developing innovative approaches for oral reading fluency assessment through model-based techniques and automated scoring; and (3) pioneering diagnostic classification methods that integrate multiple data sources including response times and process data. This work bridges traditional psychometric theory with cutting-edge computational approaches.
Dr. Qiao maintains active engagement with the academic community through her faculty position at USF's College of Education, where she contributes to both research and educational programs in measurement and research methodology. Her office is located in EDU 364, and she can be reached at xqiao@usf.edu for academic collaborations and inquiries.
