Xin Qian is a Tenured Physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University. He earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Nuclear Physics from Duke University in 2010 and a B.S. in Physics from Peking University in 2003. His professional appointments include positions at Brookhaven National Laboratory since 2013, progressing from Research Associate to Tenured Physicist, and his adjunct role at Stony Brook since 2020.
His research focuses on fundamental questions in neutrino physics including CP violation, neutrino mass nature, and potential new neutrino flavors. He specializes in Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC) technology development and pioneered the Wire-Cell event reconstruction technique. His current projects include DUNE, MicroBooNE, ICARUS, SBND, Daya Bay, PROSPECT, and PIONEER experiments. Past research includes electron scattering studies of nucleon spin structure at Jefferson Lab.
Dr. Qian's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on neutrino-argon interactions, cross-section measurements, detector development for LArTPCs, and reactor neutrino studies. His work spans experimental particle physics with emphasis on precision measurements, novel reconstruction algorithms, and detector characterization across multiple neutrino experiments.
