Dr. Xikui Wang is a Professor and Dr. L.A.H. Warren Chair in Actuarial Science at the Warren Centre for Actuarial Studies and Research within the I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. He joined the university in 2000, initially in the Department of Statistics before moving to his current position in 2020.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Statistics, University of Saskatchewan (1995)
- M.Sc. in Mathematics, University of Saskatchewan (1989)
- B.Sc. in Mathematics, Central China Normal University (1984)
Dr. Wang's research focuses on risk management, mathematical finance, dynamic pricing, Markov decision processes, response-adaptive clinical trials, and reinforcement learning. His work bridges theoretical statistics with practical applications in finance and healthcare.
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on statistical methodologies applied to healthcare (particularly Alzheimer's research and clinical trials) and financial risk management. The dominant themes include Bayesian methods, adaptive trial designs, neurostimulation therapies, and actuarial risk modeling.
Dr. Wang has supervised 15 PhD and 15 Master's students. His research has been supported by multiple grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), including a recent $90,000 grant for work on statistical dependence models.
