Xiaolei Zhang is a Reader and UKRI Future Leader Fellow at the University of Strathclyde’s Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering. He leads the £2 million 'RAN-Trans' project on net-zero transition and is a core member of the Global Center for Sustainable Bioproducts (GCSB). His research focuses on waste valorization, sustainable bio-derived materials, and decarbonization technologies. He holds a Ph.D. from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and has over £4.5 million in research funding from UKRI, EPSRC, and industry partners.
- Education: Ph.D. in Micro-reaction Mechanism (KTH, 2013), Postdoc at University of Alberta (Canada)
- Research Interests: Circular economy, biomass-to-fuels, advanced carbon materials, and catalytic processes
His work combines Density Functional Theory (DFT) and experimental methods to develop sustainable technologies. Awards include the UKRI FLF and HEA Fellowship. He teaches Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer, and leads global collaborations through GCSB.
