Xiaohua Wu is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Scripps Research. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair and its implications in cancer and aging. She holds a PhD in Biology from Brandeis University and has extensive postdoctoral training at institutions like Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Wu's research integrates genetic, molecular, and cellular biology approaches to study DSB repair pathways, including non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), homologous recombination (HR), and error-prone alternative pathways. Her work emphasizes the role of tumor suppressor genes (e.g., BRCA1, CtIP) and epigenetic modifications in maintaining genome stability. She has developed innovative EGFP-based assays and mouse models to investigate chromosomal rearrangements and cancer-associated genome instability.
Her lab has identified synthetic lethality interactions for targeted cancer therapies, such as inhibiting RAD52 in FANCM-deficient tumors. Recent projects focus on G-quadruplex structures and their roles in genomic instability, leveraging CRISPR screens and small molecule inhibitors.
