Dr. Dong Zhang is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the New York Institute of Technology, based on the Long Island campus. His research focuses on cancer biology with an emphasis on DNA damage response mechanisms, centrosome biogenesis, and targeted therapies for breast/ovarian cancers. He joined NYIT in 2014 and teaches courses including Medical Biochemistry, Gastrointestinal System, and Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Brandeis University
- Postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine and Harvard Medical School
Dr. Zhang's laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms underlying DNA replication, repair, and damage responses, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets for cancer treatment. Key research areas include the roles of FANCM, BRCA1, and DNA repair pathways in cancer development. His work combines synthetic lethality strategies with CRISPR-based models to study genomic instability.
Notable achievements include the Breast Cancer Fellowship (Baylor College of Medicine) and Gillette Fellowship (Brandeis University). His lab maintains an active website and collaborates on projects involving telomere biology and drug development.
Publications span topics like ALT-positive cancer therapies, PARP inhibitor efficacy, and CBD's anticancer properties. His research bridges basic science and clinical applications, emphasizing translational oncology and precision medicine approaches.
