Dr. Xiaofeng Guo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Washington State University (WSU), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Davis (2014), and completed postdoctoral research at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Seaborg Fellow (2015–2017). His work focuses on actinide and rare earth element (REE) materials, emphasizing thermodynamics and structural behavior under extreme conditions.
- Educations: B.S. Physics (Sun Yat-sen University, 2010), Ph.D. Chemistry (UC Davis, 2014)
- Research Specializations: Actinide thermochemistry, REE ceramics, nuclear fuel design, and materials under high-pressure/temperature environments
- Key Techniques: Synchrotron X-ray/neutron scattering, calorimetry, ultrasonic spectroscopy
Research areas include nuclear waste immobilization via actinide silicates/phosphates, hydrothermal mineral formation of REE compounds, and molten salt thermodynamics. Notable awards include the NSF CAREER Award (2022) and JPCC Early-Career Recognition (2023).
- Laboratory: Guo Lab at WSU, specializing in inorganic synthesis and materials characterization
- Key Collaborations: Los Alamos National Lab, Pacific Northwest National Lab, and international synchrotron facilities
Current projects explore uranium incorporation into zircon structures, iodine immobilization in apatite matrices, and data-driven design of REE mineral systems using machine learning.
