Xiaofan Jin serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, and holds an Associate Member position at The Calvin, Phoebe and Joan Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases.
Educational background:
- BASc in Engineering Science - Biomedical, University of Toronto (2012)
- MS in Bioengineering, Stanford University (2014)
- PhD in Bioengineering, Stanford University (2018)
- Postdoc in Bioinformatics, Gladstone Institutes (2024)
Research centers on spatial structure dynamics in microbial communities, particularly the gut microbiome. The Jin Lab integrates synthetic biology to engineer spatially defined microbial communities with computational biology to model ecological, evolutionary, and functional impacts. Key methodologies include genome engineering, high-throughput imaging, and mathematical modeling of community interactions.
The lab actively contributes to the University of Calgary's Engineering Solutions for Health initiative (2015-2021) and maintains physical infrastructure in CCIT103 laboratory space with office location CCIT214.
