Xiaobin Jian is an Associate Professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at The Ohio State University. He holds a Ph.D. from Ohio State University and has extensive experience in directing language programs, including leading The College of William and Mary’s Chinese program before becoming director of OSU’s Qingdao Center in 2007. His research focuses on advanced language training through authentic cultural contexts, cross-cultural communication, and integrating multimedia technologies into pedagogy.
Prof. Jian’s expertise includes developing courses and materials using authentic resources to simulate real-world cultural environments, as well as creating study abroad programs emphasizing community engagement in China. He has authored/co-authored books, articles, and multimedia materials in these areas. Current projects include Performed [location] for intermediate learners and the Trans-Pacific TV platform for advanced learners.
He has served as a visiting professor at Shanghai Normal University, Tsinghua University, Sichuan University, Guizhou University, and Guizhou Normal University. Prof. Jian contributes to academic publishing as a reviewer for Yale, Cambridge, and University of Arizona Presses, and editorial board member for bilingual humanities textbooks (Shanghai Education Press) and Cowrie: A Chinese Journal for Comparative Literature and Culture.
