Xavier Acarín Wieland is a curator and teacher serving as part-time faculty at Parsons School of Design, The New School, while also teaching at the School of Visual Arts (New York), Istituto Europeo di Design, and EINA in Barcelona. His work integrates curatorial practice with academic research in visual culture and urban studies.
His academic credentials include:
- Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Barcelona
- Master of Arts in Museum Studies from New York University
- Master of Arts in Curatorial Studies from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College
- PhD Candidate in Visual Culture at Goldsmiths, University of London
His research explores material performativity, urban studies, and the history of exhibitions and museums, with recent focus on recovering Barcelona's Social Museum—a 1910s institution addressing urbanism, housing, and labor. This work connects radical pedagogies to contemporary visual culture through interdisciplinary methodologies.
His recognitions include an NYU thesis honourable mention (2011) and competitive grants from OSIC, Institut Ramon Llull, CIMAM, and academic institutions including Goldsmiths and Bard College.
As a curator, he has realized projects at Elastic City, The Hessel Museum, Abrons Arts Center, HIAP Helsinki, and Barcelona's Mies van der Rohe Foundation. He has juried for the Brooklyn Arts Council (2015–2017), Muu Gallery (2016), and Tarragona Biennal d'Art (2023), demonstrating ongoing engagement with international art communities.
