Dr. Wynn Purvis (she/her) serves as Core Faculty in the Counseling Division at Antioch University. A dedicated counselor educator and sexuality counseling researcher, she brings over two decades of experience in clinical practice, higher education, and community leadership. Her professional identity centers on advancing inclusive mental health services through trauma-informed, identity-affirming approaches with marginalized populations.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor's in Psychology with Counseling Emphasis from Lander University (2000), Master's in Community Counseling from Western Carolina University (2003), and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of South Carolina (2013).
Dr. Purvis's research examines the intersections of sexual identity, trauma recovery, and counselor development. Key focus areas include:
- Sexuality counseling training and ethical practice standards
- Trauma-informed care for LGBTQIAP+ communities and neurodiverse individuals
- Maternal mental health and reproductive loss processing
- Systemic barrier dismantling in clinical/academic settings
- Culturally responsive counselor education models
Her recent scholarly output demonstrates consistent contributions to sexuality counseling integration in professional curricula, LGBTQIAP+ affirming assessment practices, and trauma responses in diverse populations including military families, incarcerated individuals, and urban minority students.
