His academic journey began with a BSc in Rural Resource Management from Aberystwyth University in 2001, followed by an MSc Econ in Entrepreneurship studied through Welsh.
Dr Morris's primary research interests focus on the intersection of rural business, agriculture, and technology. His work examines agricultural and rural incomes, diversification and entrepreneurship in rural settings, animal production systems, technology adoption in agriculture, farm and rural crime, and supply chain management. His recent research has increasingly focused on digital transformation in rural contexts, particularly the adoption of artificial intelligence in rural small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on rural business challenges, with over 50 research outputs including journal articles, book chapters, and research reports. His recent work shows a clear trend toward examining how rural businesses can leverage technology for competitive advantage while addressing unique rural challenges such as connectivity limitations and demographic shifts. His research often bridges academic theory with practical applications for policymakers and rural business owners.
Dr Morris has been actively involved in numerous research projects, including the Rural Wales Local Policy and Innovation Partnership (2023-2026), AI Adoption studies in rural SMEs (2024), and multiple rural crime surveys commissioned by Dyfed-Powys Police (2017, 2019). His work has contributed to Welsh parliamentary discussions on the impacts of COVID-19 on rural economies.
He has been instrumental in launching the first Wales-wide rural crime survey and has regularly contributed media commentary on rural business issues, appearing in various Welsh media outlets and contributing to national discussions on rural economic development. His current research continues to explore the intersection of technology, rural business resilience, and sustainable agricultural practices.
