Wyl Menmuir is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Falmouth University, co-founder of The Writers’ Block in Cornwall, and a celebrated author of both fiction and non-fiction. His work bridges literary creativity with environmental themes, exploring humanity’s relationship with nature through historical, cultural, and ecological lenses.

Research Interests: Menmuir’s writing interrogates humanity’s symbiotic relationship with natural elements—particularly trees and oceans—through explorations of craft, ecology, folklore, and modern environmental challenges. His non-fiction work combines travel narrative, scientific inquiry, and cultural critique to highlight interconnectedness between human societies and ecosystems.
Key Works: Recent publications include The Heart of the Woods (2024, exploring arboreal culture) and The Draw of the Sea (2022, winner of the Roger Deakin Award). His fiction includes the Booker-longlisted The Many (2016) and Fox Fires (2021).
Awards: Roger Deakin Award (2021), Man Booker longlist (2016), Holyer an Gof Award.
Teaching & Mentorship: Leads MA Professional Practice in Creative Writing at Falmouth, mentors with Curtis Brown Creative, and teaches at Arvon Foundation residential courses. Previously a journalist for The Guardian and BBC Radio 4.
Labs/Teams: Co-created The Writers’ Block, a Cornwall-based literary center supporting emerging writers through workshops and community programs.
