Karen Lloyd is a Senior Research Associate and Writer in Residence at Lancaster University's Future Places Centre, affiliated with the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA). She completed her PhD in Creative Writing at Lancaster in 2021, which led to her book Abundance: Nature in Recovery, longlisted for the Wainwright Prize. She teaches part-time on the Creative Writing MA and collaborates with organizations like the Arvon Foundation and Litfest.
Her research focuses on environmental literary essays, conservation, and human-nature dynamics. Notable projects include investigating microplastics in marine organisms (Morecambe Bay), exploring land rights through The Right to Roam initiative, and promoting biodiversity resilience in Kendal. She has published in The Ecologist, Dark Mountain, and Spectulative Nature Writing.
