Prof. Dr. Wolfram Seidel is a full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry / Molecular Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Rostock, Germany. He has held this W2 professorship since 2009 and leads an active research group focused on organometallic and coordination chemistry.
Education:
- Diploma in Chemistry, TU Berlin (1993)
- Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.), Freie Universität Berlin (1996)
- Habilitation in Inorganic Chemistry, University of Münster (2007)
His research interests include organometallic chemistry, coordination chemistry, and photochemistry, with a focus on heteroatom-substituted alkynes, electronic cooperativity in multinuclear systems, and poly(thiocarbonyl) complexes. His work bridges fundamental inorganic synthesis with advanced ligand design and electronic structure analysis.
The recent publications highlight a consistent focus on acetylenedithiolate-based ligands and their role in forming polynuclear and chelating coordination complexes. These studies explore ligand versatility, bridging modes, and electronic interactions in transition metal systems.
Scientific Awards:
- Feodor Lynen Scholarship (1997/98)
Prof. Seidel actively supervises bachelor’s and master’s students, including Lorenz Crome, Richard Schlädt, Friederike Hamann, Lene Zabojnik, and Janik Stahl. His group participates in national conferences such as the KCT and the Norddeutsches Doktoranden Kolloquium. No specific grants are mentioned, but his sustained research output indicates ongoing funding support.
The Seidel research group is based at the Institute of Chemistry in Rostock and maintains an active presence in the inorganic chemistry community, mentoring students and contributing to both national and international scientific discourse.
