Wolfram Buchwitz

Prof. Dr. Wolfram Buchwitz is a Professor of Civil Law, Roman Law, Historical Comparative Law, and Civil Procedure Law at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg since 2017/18. He also serves as a legal expert and arbitrator in arbitration law, contract law, and property law. His research spans legal history, focusing on ancient and medieval Roman law, and modern arbitration law.

He has delivered guest lectures at universities in Warsaw, Salento, Pavia, and Fribourg, and is a permanent member of the teaching staff at the Summer School 'European Private Law' in Salzburg.

Prof. Buchwitz is actively involved in academic organizations, including the European Law Institute, the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), and the Center for Basic Legal Research Würzburg (ZRGW), where he serves as Spokesperson and Chairman of the Association for the Promotion of ZRGW. He is also a Liaison Lecturer of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation since 2021.

He has previously served as a Judge at the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main (2019-2022) and as Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Law in Würzburg (2019-2022). He was admitted to the bar after completing his Second State Examination in Law (2012) and worked as an attorney at DLA Piper UK LLP (2013-2017). His linguistic expertise includes English, Italian, French, and Turkish.
