Prof. Wolfgang Wohlleben is a Senior Professor and Head of the Microbiology/Biotechnology department at the Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine (IMIT), University of Tübingen. He has held academic positions since 1977, including Full Professorships at the University of Tübingen (1994–2019) and roles at Saarland University and Bielefeld University. His career spans research in microbiology, genetics, and biotechnology.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, University of Erlangen (1974–1977)
- Postdoctoral Fellow in Microbiology and Biochemistry, University of Erlangen (1977–1979)
Research Focus: Bacterial cell envelope structure, natural product biosynthesis, and microbial genetics. He led the Collaborative Research Center CRC766 ('Bacterial Cell Envelope: Structure, Function, and Infection Interface') and contributed to studies on low-molecular natural products.
