Professor Wojciech Sadurski holds the Challis Chair in Jurisprudence at the University of Sydney Law School. He previously served as Professor at the European University Institute (1999-2009) and has held visiting positions at Yale, NYU, and Oxford. His scholarship examines constitutional crises, populist challenges to democracy, and transitional justice in post-communist states.
Education: LLM and DrJuris from Warsaw University.
Research Focus: Professor Sadurski's work analyzes democratic backsliding in Central Europe, constitutional legitimacy, the rule of law in the EU context, and the jurisprudence of constitutional courts during political transitions. His current research examines anti-constitutional populism in Poland and Hungary.
Leadership: Elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. Served on governing bodies of International Society of Public Law and International Association of Constitutional Law. Initiator of the Myanmar Constitutional Reform Project.
Publications: Recent works document constitutional breakdown mechanisms, including the 2022 analysis of institutional populism in 'Anti-Constitutional Populism'. His scholarship combines theoretical frameworks with case studies from Central Europe.
Teaching: Supervised 17+ doctoral completions in constitutional theory and comparative law. Teaches courses on Philosophy of Law, Constitutional Theory, and Freedom of Speech.
