He holds affiliations with the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (UCL) and the UK Dementia Research Institute. His research focuses on neural circuitry, sleep regulation, and neurotransmitter systems, particularly in the hypothalamus. William has held leadership roles at institutions including the University of Aberdeen (2005–2009) and the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (1993–2001).
Education includes a PhD in Molecular Neurobiology from the University of Cambridge (1990) and undergraduate studies in Natural Sciences at Cambridge (1983–1986). He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including Fellowship of the Royal Society (2024) and the Academy of Medical Sciences (2014).
William’s career spans over three decades, with contributions to understanding sleep mechanisms and neural pathways. His work integrates molecular biology with systems neuroscience, addressing fundamental questions about wakefulness and sedation.
