معرفی
Winston E. Thompson, Ph.D., M.S., is Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). He also serves as Director of Research for Obstetrics & Gynecology and Director of the Mentoring Academy. His laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms in women's reproductive health, focusing on uterine fibroid pathogenesis in African American women and endometriosis-driven inflammation.
Education
- Postgraduate: Marine Biological Laboratory (Certificate in Embryology)
- Fellowship: Harvard Medical School (Reproduction)
- Ph.D.: Rutgers University/University of Medicine & Dentistry (Cell and Developmental Biology)
- M.S.: Rutgers University (Endocrinology)
- B.A.: Lafayette College (Biology)
Research Focus
Dr. Thompson's work bridges DNA repair deficiencies, environmental toxicology, and epigenetic reprogramming in uterine fibroids, with emphasis on racial health disparities. His endometriosis research explores exosome-mediated miRNA transfer in inflammation and angiogenesis. Therapeutic strategies include Vitamin D3 and curcumin to reverse DNA damage and inflammatory pathways.
Recent publications (2016–2020) demonstrate consistent themes: molecular mechanisms of reproductive disorders, stem cell responses to toxins, and natural compound efficacy. Key areas include NF-κB/STAT3 signaling, exosome biology, and hormone-regulated cell differentiation.
Awards
- 2012: Teaching Excellence Certificate (Howard University)
- 2012: Board of Directors, Society for the Study of Reproduction
- 2011: NIH R15 Grant Reviewer
Leadership
He directs the Thompson Laboratory, which develops precision medicine approaches for uterine fibroids and non-invasive diagnostics for endometriosis. The team collaborates with institutions including Harvard Medical School and NIH-funded consortia.
