Wilson Shafer, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Asbury University. He holds a B.A. (2003) and Ph.D. (dissertation: link) from the University of Kentucky, and an M.S. (2007) from Eastern Kentucky University (dissertation: link). His research focuses on catalysis, particularly in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, CO₂ conversion, and catalyst design for energy applications. He previously worked under Dr. Burt Davis at the University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER), contributing to clean fuels and chemical processes. His work emphasizes hydrocarbon production, catalyst optimization, and sustainable energy solutions.
Key research areas include the hydrogenation of CO/CO₂ mixtures, iron and cobalt catalyst performance, and isotopic tracing techniques. He has published extensively on Fischer-Tropsch mechanisms, catalyst poisoning effects, and nanomaterial synthesis. His studies bridge fundamental catalytic principles with industrial applications in energy and environmental chemistry. Active collaborations and ongoing projects at Asbury University reflect his commitment to advancing sustainable technologies and mentoring students in applied chemistry.
