معرفی
Prof. Wintterlin serves as a Professor leading an active research group dedicated to imaging chemical reactions on solid surfaces at atomic resolution, with primary focus on heterogeneous catalysis—a cornerstone of industrial chemistry. The group develops specialized scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) variants while integrating complementary techniques including photoemission spectroscopy and low-energy electron microscopy to elucidate elementary surface processes and reaction mechanisms.
Research interests span critical domains in surface science and catalytic engineering:
- Surface Science fundamentals
- Industrial Heterogeneous Catalysis systems
- Advanced Scanning Tunneling Microscopy development
- Atomic-resolution Surface Reaction dynamics
- Cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis mechanisms
The group investigates model systems such as close-packed cobalt surfaces with monoatomic steps, providing atomic-level insights into catalytic processes like Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. While specific advising roles and grant details remain unspecified in available materials, this work directly informs industrial catalyst design and optimization through mechanistic understanding of surface reactions.
