Robert Williams was an Emeritus Professor at Oxford University and Emeritus Fellow of Wadham College. He held the prestigious Royal Society Napier Research Professorship from 1974 to 1991. His work focused on metal ions in biological systems, integrating inorganic and organic chemistry to understand life processes. He authored seminal books on biological chemistry and evolution, including *The Biological Chemistry of The Elements* and *The Chemistry of Evolution*.
