Nicholas Turner is a Professor of Chemical Biology at the University of Manchester, UK. His career spans over three decades, including previous professorships at the University of Edinburgh (1998-2004) and roles as Reader in Bio-Organic Chemistry (1995-1998) and Lecturer in Chemistry (1987-1995) at the University of Exeter. He is a member of the Royal Society (2020) and holds an ORCID (0000-0002-8708-0781).
- Education: B.Sc. Hons Chemistry from the University of Bristol (1979-1982), D.Phil. from Dyson Perrins Laboratory, University of Oxford (supervised by Professor Sir J.E. Baldwin FRS, 1982-1985).
Research interests include asymmetric synthesis, synthetic biology, directed evolution of enzymes, protein engineering, and biocatalysis. His work has focused on developing biocatalytic methods for organic synthesis, with applications in pharmaceuticals and chemical industries.
Scientific awards and honors include the ERC Advanced Grant (2017-2022), ACS Catalysis Lectureship (2018), and Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2011). He has received multiple Royal Society of Chemistry awards, including the Organic Stereochemistry Award (2017) and Corday-Morgan Medal (1996).
