William Thomas serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Houston and holds the role of Subsea Engineering Academic Advisor. His professional expertise encompasses stress analysis and structural design using Abaqus and Ansys, fatigue and fracture mechanics, and subsea engineering applications including top tensioned riser design and offshore structure analysis.
His primary research interests include:
- Failure prediction
- Metal forming and manufacturing
- Drilling geomechanics
- Cryogenic containment design
- Structural finite element analysis
- Fatigue and fracture mechanics
Professor Thomas has developed two new university courses and currently instructs three courses. He has delivered a conference keynote speech and authored 20 publications along with two encyclopedia contributions. In his capacity as Subsea Engineering Academic Advisor, he provides guidance to students and is actively involved in the Subsea Collaboration at the University of Houston.
