H. Brian Skeels serves as an Adjunct Professor in Subsea Engineering at the University of Houston and Emerging Technology Director at FMC Technologies with 34 years of industry experience. His expertise spans subsea pipeline design, completion systems, HPHT applications, and ROV operations, supported by over 14 patents and leadership in pioneering subsea technologies including the first 15,000 psi completion riser system.
His research focuses on frontier subsea engineering challenges including light well intervention, remote robotics, and spill containment. He actively develops next-generation ROV hardware through collaborations with Schilling Robotics and FTO Services, driving innovation in deepwater intervention systems and HPHT equipment design.
Skeels chairs multiple API Subcommittee 17 task groups including 17G (subsea intervention), 17D (subsea trees), and 17TR8 (HPHT design), shaping global standards for subsea equipment. As Subsea Engineering Academic Advisor at UH, he guides students in mechanical and aerospace engineering programs while maintaining strategic industry partnerships.
