Dr. William T. Hu is an Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Cognitive Neurology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He directs the Center for Healthy Aging Research at the Rutgers Institute for Health. His affiliations include the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and leadership roles in multiple interdisciplinary initiatives.
Dr. Hu trained at the Mayo Clinic and University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia), long COVID’s cognitive impacts, and biomarker development. He pioneered cerebrospinal fluid profiling for Alzheimer’s and TDP-43-linked FTD, and identified racial disparities in neurodegenerative biomarkers.
He leads major projects such as the Rutgers Biomarkers of Neurodegeneration Project, South Asian Aging Brain Initiative, and Asian/Pacific Islander Alzheimer’s Resource Center. NIH funding supports his NIH-funded work.
Dr. Hu’s clinical roles include directing the Alzheimer’s Disease Clinic at RWJ Medical School and overseeing population health studies like the New Jersey Cohort Study’s cognition/biomarker component.
