William Schulte is an Associate Professor of Mass Communication at Winthrop University's College of Arts and Sciences, where he has been since 2012. He holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Ohio University, alongside an MA in Journalism and a BS in Journalism/Graphics from Ball State University. His teaching focuses on media writing, advanced reporting, ethics, and multimedia.
Professionally, Schulte has over 11 years of experience in the newspaper industry. His research explores the transition from print to digital platforms in newsrooms and the impact of these shifts on journalists, alongside social constructionist theory's role in media contexts. His work appears in journals like Journal of Applied Journalism & Media Studies and Journalism History, and he authored a 2024 book on newswork and media transformation. He has also presented at national and international conferences.
Before Winthrop, Schulte taught at Ohio University and Earlham College as an adjunct. His research and teaching emphasize preparing students to navigate evolving media landscapes for societal betterment.
