William Roy

William Roy is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Nuclear, Plasma & Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Grainger College of Engineering, since 2007. He holds a Ph.D. in Soil Physical Chemistry (UIUC, 1985), M.A. in Geology (Indiana University, 1980), and B.S. in Geology (Indiana University, 1977). His research focuses on radioactive waste management, carbon sequestration, and environmental impacts of coal utilization. He has authored chapters in prominent environmental science encyclopedias and published in journals like Journal of Nuclear Energy Science and Ground Water Monitoring and Remediation. Notable honors include the 2007 Editor's Citation from the Soil Science Society of America and UIUC teaching excellence recognitions from 2002-2015. He has served as a peer reviewer for U.S. EPA and USDA programs and taught courses such as NPRE 442 (Radioactive Waste Management) and NPRE 498D (Decommissioning Nuclear Facilities).

Professional roles include Senior Geochemist (1999-2012) and Acting Head of Energy & Environmental Engineering (1998-1999) at the Illinois State Geological Survey. He consults with Natural Resource Technology, Inc. on environmental projects. His work bridges geochemistry, nuclear engineering, and environmental policy, with a focus on sustainable solutions for anthropogenic materials in natural systems.
