William Rogerson is the Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Professor of Economics and Director of the Business Institutions Program at Northwestern University's Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD from the California Institute of Technology (1980). His research focuses on industrial organization, antitrust, regulation, telecommunications, cost accounting, and defense procurement.
He currently directs the Center for Business Institutions, co-directs the Center for the Study of Industrial Organization, and serves as Research Director for Competition, Anti-Trust, and Regulation at the Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth. A Fellow of the Econometric Society, he has consulted for agencies like the Federal Trade Commission, Department of Justice, and Federal Communications Commission, where he served as Chief Economist (1998-99 academic year).
Rogerson's work addresses regulatory frameworks, merger analyses, and public policy in telecommunications and defense sectors. His recent articles explore antitrust implications of mergers like Comcast-NBCU and regulatory approaches to broadband infrastructure. His consulting roles highlight practical applications of economic theory in federal policymaking.
