William Rehg, S.J., is a Professor of Philosophy at Saint Louis University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University (1991), an MDiv from the Weston School of Theology (1987), and multiple degrees from Saint Louis University and Wright State University. His research focuses on Science & Technology Studies, Ethics, Social Philosophy, and Argumentation Theory, with notable contributions to discourse ethics, Habermasian theory, and philosophy of science.
Key publications include Cogent Science in Context: The Science Wars, Argumentation Theory, and Habermas (MIT Press, 2009) and Insight and Solidarity: A Study in the Discourse Ethics of Jürgen Habermas (UC Press, 1994), the latter earning the Phi Beta Kappa Book Award. His work bridges philosophy with interdisciplinary debates, addressing topics like climate science consensus, corporate moral agency, and Kuhnian paradigm shifts.
Rehg has received accolades such as the VOICES Faculty Fellow in Ethics (2009) and a SLU2000 Research Leave Grant (2001–2002). His research emphasizes ethical reflection in technoscientific contexts and the social dimensions of knowledge production.
