William R. Lagor, Ph.D., is the Kyle and Josephine Morrow Endowed Professor in the Department of Integrative Physiology at Baylor College of Medicine. His research focuses on lipid metabolism and somatic genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
- Lipid and lipoprotein metabolism
- Cardiovascular sciences
- Gene therapy vectors
- Somatic genome editing
The Lagor Lab investigates how genetic variations affect metabolic pathways and disease susceptibility, particularly in atherosclerosis, obesity, type II diabetes, and nonalcoholic liver disease. They utilize genetically engineered animal models and viral vectors to develop therapeutic strategies.
Recent publications highlight work on AAV-CRISPR systems for lipid disorder treatment, intestinal gene deletion studies, and overcoming immune barriers to genome editing. The lab has produced 9 major publications from 2016-2022.
- BS in Biochemistry, University of Dallas (2000)
- PhD in Molecular Biology, University of South Florida (2006)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Pennsylvania
Lab members include predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows, medical students, and junior faculty. Former lab members have moved to institutions like UCLA, Texas A&M, and Eli Lilly.
