William R. Doucette is the Deborah K. Veale Professor in Healthcare Policy at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, where he serves as Vice Chair and Head of the Division of Health Services Research. He holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on optimizing community pharmacist roles in medication use improvement, including clinical service development, practice transformation, and health policy. He has led initiatives such as the Iowa Medicaid Chronic Care Program and the Flip the Pharmacy practice innovation project.
Dr. Doucette’s academic contributions span over 200 publications. Key areas include medication therapy management (MTM), pharmacist-physician collaboration, and value-based payment models. His work addresses workforce challenges, including burnout mitigation, job satisfaction factors, and pandemic-related employment shifts.
He has received prestigious awards including the Wiederholt Prize (2023, 2020) and Paul R Dawson Award. Current grants include NACDS Foundation support for faculty scholar programs and Iowa Department of Public Health funding for chronic disease management collaborations.
His educational efforts emphasize interprofessional education and leadership development in pharmacy. He advises on state-level policy initiatives to expand pharmacist scope of practice and has pioneered tools like the Continuous Medication Monitoring (CoMM) model.
