William Post

William Post serves as Associate Professor of Music Theory at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in theory, ear training, counterpoint, orchestration, and advanced music analysis from his office in Fine Arts 213. Contact him at wdpost@alaska.edu.

Dr. Post's educational background:

• Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition, Michigan State University
• Master of Music in Music Theory and Composition, Western Washington University
• Ph.D. in Music Theory and Composition, Kent State University

His research centers on Anton Webern's compositions, post-tonal analytical methods, and innovative music pedagogy techniques. He investigates mathematical structures like the Golden Section in musical form and develops evidence-based strategies for aural skills training, with particular focus on 20th-century classical repertoire. Dr. Post has disseminated findings through international conference presentations including the Paul Sacher Foundation meeting in Cardiff.

As a composer, his choral works "Bless the Lord, O My Soul" and "Kyrie" premiered with university ensembles. He maintains active scholarly engagement through the College Music Society and Society for Music Theory, contributing to disciplinary discourse while advancing practical teaching methodologies in music education.
