William Phillip serves as the Rooney Family Collegiate Professor of Engineering in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, with his office located in 205F McCourtney Hall. He leads the Water Purification and Advanced Transport Engineering Research (WATER) Laboratory established in July 2011.
His research centers on membrane structure-chemistry relationships and solute/solvent transport phenomena, with primary interests in Membrane Science, Water Purification, and Chemical Separations at the water-energy nexus. The WATER Laboratory designs next-generation membranes for precise chemical species control, enabling advanced separation systems through material innovation.
Professor Phillip's work leverages fundamental transport engineering principles to develop novel mass transfer platforms, focusing on sustainable solutions for water purification challenges. His group's research directly addresses critical infrastructure needs at the intersection of water resource management and energy consumption.
