William Nield Christensen serves as Professor of Voice in the Music department at Oklahoma City University and holds faculty positions at the Key West Symphony Young Artist Program. A professional opera singer, he has performed leading roles with major orchestras including the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, and Grand Opera Santa Barbara.
His academic credentials include a DMA, MM, MA, and BA from the University of California at Santa Barbara, supplemented by vocal training at Indiana University, Hochschule für Musik Stuttgart, and Meran Operastudio. Instructional mentors include Donna Roll, James King, and master teachers Virginia Zeani and Martial Singher.
Dr. Christensen's pedagogical philosophy centers on vocal technique as a natural extension of speech, emphasizing balanced tone production across the vocal range alongside musicality, linguistic precision, and dramatic expression. His performance repertoire spans Wagnerian roles like Siegmund in Die Walküre to Verdi's Requiem and Puccini's Tosca.
He co-founded Santa Barbara's Performing and Visual Arts Camp in 2004, providing arts education to over 300 underprivileged elementary students through partnership with the County Board of Education. Current teaching engagements include vocal masterclasses at Interlochen Arts Academy and the Governor's School of the Arts in Virginia.
