Dr. Adam Ryburn serves as Assistant Provost and Professor of Biology at Oklahoma City University (OCU), within the College of Arts & Sciences. He joined OCU’s Biology Department in 2009 and assumed his current administrative role in Academic Affairs in 2022. His research focuses on plant taxonomy and the classification of Oklahoma flora, notably as Coordinating Editor for the Flora of Oklahoma project. He holds a B.S. from Southwestern Oklahoma State University (1998) and a Ph.D. in Plant Science from Oklahoma State University (2003), advised by Ronald J. Tyrl.
Dr. Ryburn’s professional affiliations include leadership roles in the Oklahoma Academy of Science (past President and current Executive Director) and Oklahoma Native Plant Society (past state President). He advises the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society’s Alpha Chapter and actively promotes botanical education through outreach. His scholarly work emphasizes biodiversity documentation, ecological recovery following environmental disturbances, and taxonomic revisions of plant species in Oklahoma.
Publications highlight floristic surveys, fire ecology in prairie ecosystems, and the development of taxonomic keys for plant identification. His administrative duties involve strategic academic planning, faculty development, and cross-departmental collaboration to enhance institutional academic quality.
