William Murphy is a Professor and Chair of the Commerce & Technology Graduate Programs at the University of New Hampshire School of Law. Previously, he served as an antitrust trial attorney at the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, earned an MBA and D.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and held roles as a Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College and a Fulbright Scholar at University College Cork. His research focuses on antitrust law, intellectual property valuation, and technology’s role in education. He co-founded the eLaw Summer Institute and the Portal for Intellectual Property Rights, a web resource supporting entrepreneurs and innovators.

His publications include R&D Cooperation Among Marketplace Competitors (1990) and Patent Valuation - Improving Decision Making Through Analysis (2012). He has also contributed to public access television programming and advocates for a balanced approach to legal practice.

Murphy’s advising and grants include co-directing the eLaw Institute (2005–2012) and leading the UNH Inventors Assistance Program. He collaborates with academic and governmental bodies like the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on IP commercialization initiatives.
He leads the Portal for Intellectual Property Rights project, a collaborative effort between UNH’s Paul College of Business and Economics, state agencies, and federal institutions.
