William Mims is a Lecturer in the Department of Leadership and American Studies at Christopher Newport University (CNU), directing the Pre-Law program. He concurrently holds senior status as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Virginia, a role he assumed in 2022. Previously, he served as Virginia’s Attorney General and a member of the Virginia General Assembly, making him the second Virginian to hold the state’s top three legal positions: lawmaker, enforcer, and interpreter of law.

His teaching focuses on constitutional law, American legal systems, and leadership ethics, including courses like Encounters with the Constitution and Moral Leadership and Social Transformation. Mims emphasizes mentoring undergraduates pursuing legal careers, drawing on decades of legal practice and judicial experience. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at Virginia law schools.
