Dr. William (Will) Martin is a Principal Lecturer and Associate Director in the Department of General Engineering at Clemson University, located in 110C Holtzendorff Hall. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Civil Engineering, all from Clemson University (2013, 2011, 2010). His academic roles include teaching courses on engineering fundamentals, problem-solving using Excel and MATLAB, engineering graphics for civil engineering, and Creative Inquiry research.
His research focuses on sustainable infrastructure, particularly stormwater management using Low Impact Development (LID) technologies, climate change impacts on hydrology, porous pavement systems, and green roof hydrology. He has published extensively on topics like hydrologic modeling of LID systems, porous pavement design, and climate adaptation strategies.
Dr. Martin co-authored the textbook Thinking Like an Engineer: An Active Learning Approach (Pearson, 2022), emphasizing pedagogical innovation. His recent work explores municipal-scale stormwater performance under climate change and modular green roof hydraulic models. He actively participates in conferences, presenting findings on LID technologies and porous pavement characterization.
While no specific awards are listed, his contributions to engineering education and sustainable infrastructure are evident through his teaching and publications. He advises Creative Inquiry projects and collaborates on research teams addressing environmental and civil engineering challenges. His department’s focus aligns with broader initiatives in Clemson’s College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences.
